Review: ILLamasqua Skin Base Foundation

I went overboard when I saw Illamasqua Beauty Counter in Myer, Adelaide.  It took me 2 weeks to review this  product just because I want to ensure that I have tried pretty much everything before making a decision that sadly this product did not go well with my skin. Yes, I am broken within. Bahhh.  Anyhoot, here's my review on this product.

Introducing the 1st product ;

                                          Illamasqua Skin Base Foundation in SB 6.5, 30mls of product

ILLamasqua claims that 'Inspired by the cult Asian market Beauty Balm creams, Skin Base Foundation is a brand new, refined formula unlike anything on the UK market. Easily blendable, it effortlessly creates a perfect complexion, and like the entire Illamasqua foundation range, is undetectable in a professional HD environment. Suitable for all skin types, it smoothes, softens and conditions your skin whilst providing natural, buildable coverage.'

It has 26 awesome shades to choose from the palest to the darkest. If you're in Adelaide or Melbourne, you should get your foundation match over the counter.  It makes life easier for you :) They do have a chart comparison. However, some say that it is not accurate. I had noticed that this foundation has mixed reviews.  I guess its entirely up to your skin type.  Some love this foundation and others hate it totally.

I like how light weight the packaging is, and the idea of squeezy tube which makes the product super hygienic.  You know how pumping type dispenser can be annoying because you might end up pumping too much products? With this tube, you can control the amount you need. So, I like the idea of the squeezy technique!

The consistency of this foundation is thick.  It has a medium coverage where you can build it up to a full coverage.  If you have a good skin type, you will love this foundation because it gives you a natural looking skin after application. Beware for those who often have dry or oily skin type because it may accentuate patchiness with dry skin & melt away with oily skin.

How I apply this foundation;

1st trial ; I do my normal facial routine by toning, applying hydrating serum & moisturiser from Shiseido. I then apply on the Hydra Veil following the Skin Base Foundation.  {  From far, it looks flawless but when you come closer to me, you will notice patchiness on my nose bridge and my cheek area. It does not look appleaing at all, in my opinion.  }

After my 1st trial,  I encounter a major issue where I developed itchiness that leads to redness over my forehead, around my nose & around my lips to my chin.  It was an agonising period for me as I ended up taking an Anti-Histamine tablet to soothe the itchiness & redness.  It took me 5 days to get better from the issue I encountered.

2nd trial ; I do my normal facial routine including a scrub from St Ives and tone, applying hydrating serum & moisturiser from Shiseido.  I then apply Porefressional from Benefit cosmetic and Hydra Veil gel over following Skin Base Foundation.  {  The effect is the same as my 1st trial.  }

-  After my agonsing recovery from the 1st trial,  I decided to give it a try once more before reviewing this product.  This time,  it happened again.  I guess I am allergic to both the products.  It is sad to know that I cant use it anymore because I cannot see myself going through the redness & itchiness after each application.

                                                                - Natural light, NO Flash -

                                                                  - With Flash On -

                                        - Close-Up { I hate taking close-up unless its for reviewing purposes }

Remember I shared my experienced regarding the redness, itchiness & dryness on some parts of my face? I took a photo so I can share it with everyone :)

- It was a hard shot to take & I guess this is the best among the rest.  If you get up-close to me, you will notice redness from both side of my lips all the way down to my chin.  I can live with dry face but when its redness + itchy & you have to treat yourself with steroid cream along side with an Anti-histamine, its definitely not pleasant at all lol.

My Overall Thoughts on the foundation.....

Consistency: 4/5
Packaging:  5/5
Application: 5/5
Longevity: 3/5

+ I like how the foundation looks on me apart from the patchy area( nose bridge & right side of my cheek ) & the part where I developed redness + itchiness

+ I don't quite understand the part where it claimed to be a better version of Asian BB cream? This foundation doesn't have any SPF nor contain any ingredients an Asian BB cream has...

+ It has an awesome shade range including no.1 where you can mix the foundation to suit your skin tone :)

+ The claim where is suits for any skin type? That is a pretty bold statement, hey!

+ I love how natural it looks on camera including flash photography!

+ Just remember to moisturise your face properly cuz it may turn out patchy.

If you have tried this foundation, what are your thoughts on them? I would die to know :) xx
